The "Angie" (my intro to pull-ups)

Just thought I'd share a little video clip I took while waiting for my second Crossfit basics class to start:
Note the girl in the blue shorts doing pull-ups. She's taking breaks only because she's about half-way through doing 100 of them! And after she finished them, she went on to do 100 push-ups (from her toes in case you were wondering), 100 sit-ups, and 100 squats. And that is what is known as the "Angie".

Imagine my dismay when I saw our WOD (workout of the day) posted on the board: 1/2 Angie (meaning, in case you're not so hot at math, 50 pull-ups/push-ups/sit-ups/squats. Luckily the learning portion of our workout ran late so we "only" ended up having to do 25 each, yay me! :P My hope is that as a result I'll be able to use my arms when I go back again on Thursday. My raw and calloused hands are another story...

  1. I couldn't do 100 pull-ups/push-ups/sit-ups/squats if you had a gun to my head. Screw Angie.

  2. ps- you have double word verification on for comments (the blogger default) which may severely cut down on peoples' likelihood of commenting, probably isn't necessary, and is just plain annoying. :) just fyi.

  3. Odd, I chose to have word verification on, but it didn't say anything about double? Turned it off so hopefully it's fixed. Thanks for fighting through to make your comment. ;)

  4. Oy. I can do situps and squats forever, but I might make it through 2 or 3 pull ups before my arms would just be unusable for an undetermined period of time.

Was she doing them two or three at a time for the whole time, or was that just because she was getting close to being done with her total reps?

Actually I think I'd have a hard time even getting ahold of the bar...I'd need a stepstool or something, lol.

    1. She knocked out quite a few without stopping at the beginning. At the time I thought she was taking breaks because her arms were tired, but I realized by the end that it was actually because doing that many pull-ups rips up your hands. So she kept stopping and re-chalking her hands.

There are bars of varying heights, or you can use a box to reach a higher one if needed, but mostly you just jump. ;)

Trying doing front squats to change up your routine. I thought I could do squats until I was blue in the face too until we did front squats.

  5. I had one awful experience of trying to to ONE pull-up. It involved my trainer trying to push me p from my rib cage. I suggested we NEVER do that again.

Angie (and you have my utmost respect)
